2021 Winter Season Toss & Fetch League Commemorative Patch

Wick’d Air Flies Again on
Winter 2021 Season Patch

For many veteran disc doggers, the first time they would come to know Elkton, Maryland Co-Captain Laura O’Neil was when they were sitting in a hotel banquet room along with 80 or so other anxious USDDN world qualifying hopefuls on a mid-October Friday night in Cartersville, Georgia.

The world’s best competitors from across the US and Canada, as well as dozens from Japan, Korea, China, and Europe, attended that mandatory “Players Meeting” that preceded the weekend’s events every year beginning in the early 2000’s.

While it was Melissa Heeter’s meeting, it was obvious the founder of the USDDN relied on Laura to organize and run not only the Player’s Meeting, but also the Big Weekend Show.

In between herding Teams for their running orders all Saturday and Sunday, year after year Laura carved out time to take to the Freestyle and Toss & Fetch fields with her world-qualified Border Collie Wick’d Air, the dog that started Laura on her disc dogging journey to become one of the sport’s biggest advocates.

To salute Laura’s dedication to our sport, the 2021 Winter Season patch will honor Wick’d Air, whose 16-year wonderful life full of Frisbee, agility and daily hikes came to an end in May of this year.

“My happy boy is at peace now. His joints no longer ache, he can see clearly, he can hear a cookie rustle coming out of the package (well ok, maybe he never lost THAT much hearing – it was just selective ),” wrote Laura.

“I would have sworn I was ready (I was not), he and I had the conversation last year on his 15th birthday that he had done so much and it was OK to go on his terms. Well, then Frenzy passed and I told him I lied . . . could he please hold out through 2020? And Mr. accommodating said, “sure.”

“My heart is broken.”

Wick’d Air, aka Wicked

Wick’d Air was a multi-time world championship Qualifier in Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, USDDN, Skyhoundz, UpDog, and probably others.

One of his Wick’d Air personalized discs hangs in the Ashley Whippet Museum in Chicago, and he now flies on the K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch Worldwide League’s 2021 Winter Season patch
