WHEN THE LEAGUE WAS BRAND NEW
BRAN WAS THERE – AND HE’S STILL ROCKIN’

In the Fall of 2015, two dozen K9 Frisbee Teams gathered on a field near Akron, Ohio to play in a five-week Ohio versus Michigan challenge in what would become the Worldwide League’s inaugural season.

Of the 26 Akron dogs who played in that first League season 9-and-a-half years ago, just four are still with us, including Bran who turned 13-years in April and is still catching discs in League.

Bran is the dog that started Karen and Tom Franz on the disc dogging journey. Karen and Tom, along with Bran of course, soon became enthusiastic competitors, disc dog event organizers, and leaders of the K9 Frisbee community in Northeast Ohio.

After a couple seasons making the hour-long drive to anchor of what soon became the Akron Club, Karen and Tom wanted to give people up north where they lived easy access to the League. So, in the Summer of 2016, Tom and Karen started the Cleveland K9 Frisbee Club, rocking and rolling their Club to two League Championships over the 34 Seasons they’ve played.

Thanks to Bran, and a couple other of those founding dogs, Northeast Ohio has grown from that small group of 24 to more than 200 active K9 Frisbee teams.

“I will always be able to “brag” about Bran because he is the sweetest, most perfect boy,” said Karen. But now that he’s retired from everything except Disc. He’s the youngest 13-year-old in our world. Still living life to the fullest and playing in Toss & Fetch League.”
