Celebrating Anya: The K9 Frisbee Dog Honored on the March 90:/5 Season Patch

Nestled along the shores of Puget Sound, just 25 miles north of Seattle, Everett, Washington, is a city rich with history, community, and the spirit of competition. Once home to the Native American Snohomish tribe for centuries, the lush peninsula at Port Gardner Bay served as a place of gathering, resilience, and tradition. Much like a K9 Frisbee Club, Native American tribes thrived on unity, mentorship, and the passing down of knowledge and skills from one generation to the next.

The Everett K9 Frisbee League Club embodies that same sense of kinship and shared purpose. Founded by Captain Becky Johnson in 2019, Everett was the first K9 Frisbee League Club in the Pacific Northwest. What started as a small gathering of 12 teams quickly ignited an explosion of interest, leading to the formation of more than 15 active clubs stretching from Eugene, Oregon, to Seattle, and up to Vancouver Island. Everett became the spark that set the Pacific Northwest ablaze with K9 Frisbee passion, proving that a game as simple as toss and fetch could foster a close-knit community.

Corey & Anya: A Legacy of Excellence

Among the pioneers of this movement were Corey Polis and his incredible German Shepherd Dog, Anya. Since the Everett Club’s inaugural season, Corey and Anya have been a constant force, playing in all 27 seasons Everett has been active. Across those seasons, their impact has been undeniable: Corey and Anya have led their Club in #1 Team scores in all but 14 seasons, showcasing a level of consistency and excellence few have achieved.

With an all-time average of 32 points per week across 27 seasons, Corey and Anya have become one of the most formidable K9 Frisbee Teams in League history. Their accomplishments include the rare and coveted perfect 55-point weekly “bell-ringers”, and they are one of the few teams to achieve a perfect season—the 90:/5 June 2022 Season, where they recorded four perfect 55-point weeks.

But their legacy goes beyond numbers. Anya, now entering the later years of her career, has been the most consistent dog in Everett Club history. Her partnership with Corey has been nothing short of poetry in motion—his throws are precise, perfectly placed, and tailored to Anya’s strengths. Their teamwork has been so admired that fellow club members often joke that Corey should throw for all their dogs!

Honoring Anya on the 90:/5 March 2025 Patch

This season’s 90:/5 March 2025 patch honors Anya, capturing her legacy as one of the most dominant and dedicated K9 Frisbee dogs in League history. Set against the backdrop of the Cascade Mountains and the Snohomish River Valley, the patch features Anya in full flight, leaping to catch a Frisbee. Alongside her, a Native Whale rendering is included—a powerful symbol of family, longevity, harmony, and protection. Just as the whale is said to guide travelers home, Anya has guided the Everett Club through years of camaraderie, competition, and success.

The Everett Club’s journey has been one of growth and triumph. Under Becky Johnson’s leadership, the Club expanded to 40 teams and even secured a Canis Magnus Club Championship in the 90:/5 March 2022 Season. Today, under the stewardship of new Captain Jacelyn Young, Everett remains a thriving hub of K9 Frisbee excellence.
A Lasting Legacy

Corey and Anya’s story is a testament to what makes the K9 Frisbee Worldwide League so special. It’s about the bond between human and dog, the friendships formed through sport, and the shared pursuit of excellence. Corey has not only been an elite competitor but also a pillar of support within the Everett Club—always encouraging teammates, offering tips, and capturing unforgettable moments through his photography.

As Anya slows down in her later years, her legacy is secure. She is more than just a great K9 Frisbee dog; she is a symbol of dedication, trust, and love—a true embodiment of the Native American saying that began this tribute.

Congratulations to Corey and Anya on this well-deserved honor. Your journey has inspired an entire region and will be remembered in the annals of K9 Frisbee history.
