PHOEBE FLIES ON SDU 2025 PATCH

In the Fall of 2019 and with just three other local disc doggers, Jeff & Shelah Davis founded Miami, Florida’s first ever K9 Frisbee Club and joined to begin playing in the K9 Frisbee Worldwide League as a Squad – a Club with less than 8 people but at least 4.

After that debut season as a Squad, word got out and the Miami Club grew to 14 handlers in their 2nd season, Summer Down Under 2020. One of the newbie Teams in that second season in Miami was Elizabeth Cepero & her border collie Phoebe.

While Elizabeth was a veteran dog-sport mom, SDU 2020 must have been Elizabeth & Phoebe’s first attempt at disc dogging – some weeks they’d score 0 points and others just 2.5 points in their best week of that rookie season. While their scores weren’t high, Elizabeth saw the potential in herself and in Phoebe who was now addicted to disc – and she wanted to play more.

Unfortunately, Jeff and Shelah the founding Miami Club Captains were unable to move forward with the Club after those first two seasons. Not wanting to deprive Phoebe of playing disc, Elizabeth stepped in and took over as Captain for the Summer 2020 season to keep K9 Frisbee alive in South Florida, fielding a roster that had now grown to 27 Teams

The Summer Down Under 2025 Season that begins tomorrow will mark the 20th League season that Elizabeth has Captained the Miami Club and the first of those 20 seasons that Phoebe will miss due to a recent cruciate rupture in December.

Phoebe, an agility, dock diving, and K9 Frisbee athlete, is a dog-sport celebrity in South Florida after an appearance in a local Furniture City TV commercial two years ago, and she will be missed this season by her Club-mates.

Thanks to Phoebe, K9 Frisbee is alive, strong and growing in Miami and we salute her as the honored dog on the Summer Down Under 2025 Season patch.
