About the Dogs on the dogs honored on the first Worldwide Championship patch:
Phoebe
Dominique Turmel, L’Avinir, Quebec, Canada
Phoebe is an Aussie retires from disc dog at 10 years old after a long and great career . An epic and master dog in freestyle for Quebec province. She was our legend , our inspiration. Always ready for a disc play, no mater time or weather. Phoebe played, qualified or won in UFO, USDDN, CDDA, Skyhoundz.
Ace
Shawn & Kara Bellingham, Calgary, Canada
Shawn got Ace in May 2015, he was a Baussie pup with a huge personality. Ace was a rockstar, he was catching rollers at 8 weeks old. He played the game of disc and LOVED it!!!! At 3 months old he had his first seizure, and after many tests was diagnosed with epilepsy. 🙁 That didn’t stop him from playing, he loved it and Shawn made sure to let him keep enjoying his life. At 8 months old, he crossed the rainbow bridge. He just couldn’t fight it anymore. As short as his life was, he lived large. They Never stopped playing disc together and I believe he was the perfect disc dog for the time we were blessed to have him. While Ace never got the opportunity to play with K9 Toss and Fetch, one litter mate and one older sibling currently play and I believe his spirit is right there with them 🙂
Sketch
Kirby Mclleven, San Diego
Sketch is my first disc dog. My mom got him for me when I was 10 to play agility, but he ended up liking frisbee better. He had freedom to make up his own game, so it was more his style. Young Sketch was a kid’s dream dog – wild, affectionate, and always ready for the next adventure (even if it was playing catch in my room at midnight). It made me laugh, so I could never say no. He wanted to play nonstop and it could’ve been anything…discs…soccer ball…pinecones…anything he could pick up! He never met a stranger either. Many people know Sketch as a Quadruped long distance legend, with an unbeatable total of 12 wins and an American record of 81.3 yards. He was one of the top freestyle dogs of his time, consistently placing on the podium in competitions around the USA. Rarely did he miss a T&F throw and only had a handful of “off” days in his lifetime. The only reason he never won a world championship is because I choked every time we got close. Newer players may not have seen Sketch in his prime, but if you are a fan of Torch, just know that Torch’s success is very much due to Sketch. Now that he’s truly retired, competing is not the same without him and probably never will be. He was the most fun freestyle dog ever. I never had to wonder where he was or if he was going to catch it. He was always there. I believe all of my dogs are “heart dogs,” some in different ways than others, but Sketch is a best friend. He knew when something is important and would try even harder. When I cried, he was there to lick my tears away. As a sort of unmotivated kid, he gave me something to strive for. Now at 14.5, he still begs to play and tries his best to catch toys, even though he can’t see so well. His abilities and activities have changed as he’s aged, but one thing hasn’t: he still gives everything 100%. He has had lots of ups and downs in the last year, so we’re not sure how much time he has left, but we’ll do our best to make him happy for as long as he’s with us.
