++ Just 1 Season left to Qualify (SEE BELOW) ++
Everyone who plays in the 2023 Worldwide Championship that runs on Saturday, September 9, will take home this year’s patch that honors 3 dogs Rugby, Kali, and Muddoosa who, combined, have played in 70 K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch League Seasons, all starting 6 or more years ago in 2017, the League sophomore year.
For this 4th Annual 2023 Worldwide Championship, we salute these dogs and their human Teammates:
Rae & Rugby
Rugby is Rae Baier’s tough-biting, 7-year-old Australian Cattle mix who’s been killing discs his entire life in the League. In fact, this 90:/5 June Season marks Rugby’s 26th Season of K9 Frisbee Worldwide League play, dating back to the Fall of 2017 when he and Rae began with the Loudon, New Hampshire Club.
Early in the course of those 26 seasons, Rae stepped up to Captain both the Loudon and nearby Hampton, New Hampshire Clubs to keep K9 Frisbee thriving in the Granite State. In between running her League Club, Rae and Rugby have been collecting hardware and titles in agility, rally, dock diving and, of course disc as freestyle world finalists’ multi-times in AWI, USDDN, and Skyhoundz.
Said Rae, “Rugby has always been a tough biter. There’s not a disc that can stand up to him — puts holes in the Super Sonics and Jawz we use for freestyle and the Superstars we use for toss and fetch. He’s intense on the field but also a big cuddler at home with me.”
Amanda & Kali
Kalie is Lumsden, Saskatchewan Captain Amanda Abs’s 7-year-old Dutch Shepherd and another long-time League veteran. Kali got her start in League in the Spring 2017 Season, just two seasons before Rugby, and this 90:/5 June Season will be Kali’s 14th in the record books.
According to Amanda, “Kali plays several sports and loves learning tricks in our downtime even achieving her Advanced and expert Trick titles after which I found out that she was just the 5th Dutch Shepherd to receive this title.”
Although it doesn’t sound like Kali has much downtime as she also titled in Agility, Barnhunt, and Flyball – lucky dog!
“When it comes to disc, she LOVES it!” said Amanda. ” She loves to just go fast and think later! She is very sweet on her off time, but a crazy girl on her sport time! She pretty much loves doing any type of activity and always gives 110%.”
Kathy & Muddoosa
With 19 League seasons under her belt Kathy Mills’ border collie Muddoosa is the oldest pup on this year’s patch and, with Kathy, and anchor Team for the St. Louis Club. Muddoosa, who will be 9 years old in October, also began her disc days in the Spring 2017 League season and has gone on to K9 Frisbee glory.
According to Kathy, “She won us our first Quad series trophy after I had been chasing this trophy for 19 years, three first place wooden Quad plaques and has gotten us in the finals numerous times. She is an AWI, USDDN and Skyhoundz Sport D/A world finalist. She won us the Overall Kansas State Championship and the Runner-up overall State Championship the following year at Land of Oz.
She is the sweetest & cuddliest girl; she loves the disc and is so focused on what I am going to do and how I am going to throw it and makes it so easy for me to just throw it. She is my little rock star and has taken us on so many wonderful adventures and I am enjoying every bit of this ride with her. I’m so lucky to be her human.”
