How To Earn a Skyhoundz Sport Q in League Play
From Your Local League Field to the World Stage
The K9 Frisbee Worldwide League Partners with Skyhoundz®
For more than a decade, the K9 Frisbee Worldwide League has been introducing thousands of people around the world to the joy of tossing a disc with their dog.
What began as a simple weeknight Toss & Fetch game played among friends has grown into something remarkable. Today the League connects hundreds of Clubs and thousands of Teams across multiple continents, all playing locally while competing in worldwide rankings.
The spirit of the League has always been simple:
easy to learn, fun to play, and welcoming to everyone.
Now the League is taking an exciting new step.
The K9 Frisbee Worldwide League is officially partnering with Skyhoundz, the organization that stages the largest and most prestigious disc dog competition series in the world.
Every year, Skyhoundz brings the best disc dog teams from around the globe together for the Skyhoundz World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
And now, for the first time, League teams will have a direct path to get there.
Punch a Ticket to Chattanooga
Beginning in 2026, the League will offer a Skyhoundz Distance/Accuracy (D/A) League Series, embedded directly within regular League play.
This new competitive class will be available during:
- Spring League Season (60:/All format)
- Summer League Season (60:/All format)
- The K9 Frisbee Worldwide Championship (WWC)

Each of these events will award ten (10) Sport Qualifying Sport Invitations (Q’s) to the Skyhoundz World Championships per the following:
1st Place Overall Super 8 Club
- 3 Q’s + 3 World Finalist Plaques (awarded to the top three eligible Teams within that Club)
- 8 Skyhoundz Championship Pennants
2nd Place Overall Super 8 Club
- 2 Q’s + 2 World Finalist Plaques (awarded to the top two eligible Teams within that Club)
3rd Place Overall Super 8 Club
- 1 Q + 1 World Finalist Plaque (awarded to the top eligible Team within that Club)
Wildcard Q’s (Four Total)
Four (4) additional Wildcard Q’s are awarded each season.
Wildcard Q’s are granted to:
- The four (4) highest cumulative season-scoring eligible Teams
- Representing four (4) different Clubs
- Not belonging to a Club finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the Super 8 Club Ranking
Each Wildcard Q includes a World Finalist Plaque.
Here is an example Final Season Scoresheet of how Q’s will be rewarded:
30 Skyhoundz Sport Q’s Every Year
That creates 30 opportunities each year for League teams to earn a spot at one of the biggest stages in the sport.
For players who have dreamed about competing at the world level, the path just became a lot clearer.
Your journey could begin on your local League field on a weeknight.

Participation Is Optional
The Skyhoundz D/A League Series is designed as an optional competitive class.
That means:
- Clubs may choose whether or not to participate
- WWC Regional Hosts may choose whether or not to host the class
For most League members, nothing changes. League night will remain exactly what it has always been: a relaxed opportunity to get outside, play Frisbee with your dog, and enjoy time with friends.
But for those teams that want to compete at the highest level, the opportunity will now be there.
Competing Under Official Skyhoundz Rules
Clubs and WWC Regionals that choose to participate in the Skyhoundz D/A League Series will run their rounds using official Skyhoundz Distance/Accuracy rules.
Skyhoundz D/A is the foundation upon which Toss & Fetch was originally modeled.
Both games use:
- a 50-yard field
- distance-based scoring zones
- timed throwing rounds
- catches made by the dog to score points
Hyperflite Discs Must Be Used
Under Official Skyhoundz D/A Rules, only Hyperflite Discs may be used so Teams will need to stock up through the Skyhoundz Hyperflite Online Store.
Because of this shared DNA, League teams are already familiar with the fundamentals of the game.
The Skyhoundz format simply adds the official judging standards and competition structure used in international championship events.
The Super 8 Club Competition
A key feature of the Skyhoundz League Series will be the Skyhoundz Super 8 Club Competition reported on the League Facebook page every week of every season.
Participating Clubs will be ranked against each other using the scores of their top eight “A” Teams.
This creates a dynamic club-versus-club competition across the entire League.
Just like the existing Super 8 Division Challenge used in League play, the system rewards depth, consistency, and strong team performance across a Club’s roster.
Clubs will be ranked in a dedicated Skyhoundz Super 8 Club leaderboard, highlighting the strongest competitive programs participating in the series.
How Teams Earn World Championship Invitations
Across each Skyhoundz D/A League Series event, ten Sport Qualifying Invitations to the Skyhoundz World Championship will be awarded.
These invitations will go to the top-performing eligible Teams across participating Clubs.
Each earned qualification includes:
- A Skyhoundz World Championship Sport Invitation
- A Skyhoundz World Finalist plaque
Teams who earn a qualification will have the opportunity to compete at the Skyhoundz World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, joining elite competitors from around the world.
Even if a team cannot attend the World Championship, they will still retain official recognition as a Skyhoundz World Finalist.
The Worldwide Championship Integration
The partnership will also extend to the League’s own flagship event: the Worldwide Championship (WWC).
WWC Regional Hosts will have the option to run a Skyhoundz D/A Championship class during their regional events.
Just like the seasonal League series, the WWC event will award ten additional Sport invitations to Chattanooga.
This creates an exciting competitive layer within the League’s biggest event of the year.
Handlers who travel to compete at WWC Regionals will now also have the chance to earn a spot on the world stage.
A Natural Partnership
In many ways, this partnership feels like a return to the roots of the game.
The League’s Toss & Fetch format was originally inspired by Skyhoundz Distance/Accuracy. Both games celebrate the same simple idea: handler and dog working together to catch flying discs.
For years the League has provided a welcoming entry point into the sport.
Now, that same League community becomes part of a larger pathway.
Players who start by tossing discs with friends at their local Club can now follow that path all the way to one of the premier championships in disc dog sports.
League Night Stays the Same
It’s important to remember that the heart of the League is not changing.
League will continue to be what it has always been:
- a laid-back weeknight gathering
- a place to play Frisbee with your dog
- a community of friends and dog lovers
But for teams who want to take the next step, there will now be a clear route forward.
From your local Club field
to League play
to the Worldwide Championship
and potentially all the way to Chattanooga.
A New Chapter for Disc Dog Players
For thousands of League members around the world, the K9 Frisbee Worldwide League has always been about one simple joy.
Throwing a disc.
Watching your dog fly.
Now that same experience can also open the door to something bigger.
A chance to compete among the best.
A chance to stand on the field at the Skyhoundz World Championships.
And it might all begin on an ordinary weeknight… with a Frisbee in your hand and your dog ready to run.
