For this 3rd Annual 2022 Worldwide Championship, we salute these dogs and their human Teammates:

Left: Dayton Ohio Captain Bob Ryan’s Welsh Corgi Bagel made his League debut in the Summer 2016 Season and has since chalked up 21 seasons of League play. When Bagel began in League, he had a tough time competing with his long-legged brethren. Back then Rollers weren’t yet allowed and there was no Tiny Dog category, and Bagel was often limited to 10- and 20-yard air catches.

Today, the 30 cm tall (11.8”) Bagel is a major force for the Dayton Club. Bob switched Bagel to become a high-scoring Roller Dog who, along with Tiny Dog Bonus points, helped Captain Bob jump from Handler, to Master, to earning his Expert wings this year in the Summer Down Under season.

In addition to League, Bagel & Bob perform the cutest freestyle act ever to the delight of crowds during demos throughout Ohio, always promoting the sport and proving every dog, of every size can enjoy and excel at disc.

Center: With amazing speed, exceptional tracking, and a perfect hand-off, Dale Mcelrath’s border-whippet-staffy Finn is the frisbee dog we all wished we had. In 23 seasons of play, Dale & Finn have finished in the TOP TEN Overall 22 times and have been the number #1 Power-Ranked Team for the past 3 years.

Dale & Finn are the anchors for the Chapel Hill, North Carolina K9 Frisbee Club and routinely card 55-point bell-ringers, week after week, season after season, making them the most successful K9 Frisbee Team in the League’s 7-year history . . . and, when you this season’s final scores are published, you’ll see they’re still going strong.

Right: Sally Zinkhan lived for her animals. Her first love was her horses and equestrian sports. She was also an accomplished agility competitor who made a living training others in the sport.
After she discovered disc dogging, she became an active member of Mid Atlantic Disc Dogs and one of our sport’s biggest promoters. She was a two-time Skyhoundz Pairs Freestyle World Champion along with Frank Buckland and Shiloh in 2010 and 2011.

Four years ago, Sally gathered her dog-loving friends and founded the Baltimore K9 Frisbee Club helping to grow the sport throughout Maryland.

Sally’s love for all dogs was manifested in her rescuing efforts. At any given time, her home was open to 10 to 15 fostered dogs who were lucky enough to call Sally mom.

After a long illness, 52-year-old Captain Sally passed away on June 26. Knowing she was seriously ill, Sally made sure all her dogs would be taken care of in the homes of friends and family.

As a tribute to Sally, the 2022 Worldwide Championship patch features her border collie Ellie, one of her many Frisbee dogs.

Sally’s friend Larissa Goldstein shared this personal message from Sally to all her friends and family: “I am so blessed and want to thank each and every one of you for being part of my life. It’s been a great ride. See ya’ all on the other side. Be good to each other”
